Play FreeCell with two decks online
FreeCell Two Decks, also called double FreeCell or FreeCell double deck, is FreeCell made bigger: 104 cards instead of 52, ten columns instead of eight, and eight free cells instead of four. Everything is still face up, so it is still a game of planning, but the extra room makes it calmer and more forgiving. A game takes two or three times as long as a normal one, which is exactly why people like it.
It runs free in your browser with no download. Drag a card or tap it to send it to the best place, undo without limit, and press Hint when you are stuck. Every game dealt by the New game button has been solved by a computer first, so there is always a way to win.

FreeCell Two Decks rules
- The deal. Two full decks, 104 cards, are dealt face up into ten columns: eleven cards in the first four columns and ten in the other six.
- The goal. Move all the cards to the eight foundations, two for each suit, each built up from ace to king.
- Columns build down in alternating colours. A red 9 goes on a black 10, a black 4 on a red 5. Only the last card of a column, or a run of cards in order, can move.
- Eight free cells. Each holds one card for as long as you like.
- Empty columns take any card or run.
- Either copy will do. There are two of every card. When a foundation is waiting for the 6 of hearts, whichever 6 of hearts you free first can go there.
As in FreeCell, a run in order moves together when there is room to move its cards one by one: (empty cells + 1), doubled for every empty column. With all eight cells empty that is nine cards at once, and eighteen with one empty column as well.
How it differs from normal FreeCell
| FreeCell | FreeCell Two Decks | |
|---|---|---|
| Cards | 52 | 104 |
| Columns | 8 | 10 |
| Free cells | 4 | 8 |
| Foundations | 4 | 8 |
| Longest run with all cells empty | 5 | 9 |
| Moves in a typical win | about 80 to 100 | about 200 |
You will find other layouts under the same name. Some versions give you six cells or only four, and one well-known variant, usually called Double FreeCell, uses just four foundations that each take both decks, running from ace to king and then ace to king again. The version here, with eight cells and eight foundations, is the most relaxed of them.
Tips for two-deck FreeCell
- Eight cells are not a licence to fill them. The game feels easy while the cells are empty and turns hard quickly once six are full. Treat every parked card as a debt.
- Use the twin. If the 4 of spades you need is buried, look for the other one. Planning around the easier copy is the main new skill in this game.
- Empty a short column early. The columns with ten cards and few court cards are the cheapest to clear, and one empty column doubles the length of the runs you can move.
- Build both foundations of a suit evenly. If one pile of hearts races ahead to the 9 while the other is on the 2, low hearts from the second deck have nowhere to go but the columns.
- Start runs on kings. With two decks there are eight kings; a king at the top of an otherwise empty column is the best base you can get.
More games in the FreeCell family
- FreeCell: the classic with one deck, four cells and alternating colours. Every deal can be won, and the Windows game numbers work.
- Eight Off: eight cells, columns built in suit and only kings in empty columns.
- Baker's Game: FreeCell's parent, built down in suit. Much harder than it looks.
- Spider Solitaire: the other famous game with two decks and ten columns, where most cards start face down.
FAQ
Can you play FreeCell with two decks?
Yes. FreeCell Two Decks, or double FreeCell, uses 104 cards. On this page they are dealt into ten columns, with eight free cells and eight foundations, two for each suit.
How many free cells does FreeCell Two Decks have?
Eight in this version, twice as many as normal FreeCell. Other versions use six or four cells, which makes the game harder.
Is double FreeCell harder than FreeCell?
With eight cells it is usually easier to win, because you have much more room, but each game is longer: about 200 moves instead of 80 to 100. You need patience more than cleverness.
Can every FreeCell Two Decks game be won?
Nearly every deal can. The New game button here only deals games that a solver has already won, so the games it gives you always have a solution. Game numbers you type in yourself are not all checked.
How many cards can I move at once with two decks?
The number of empty cells plus one, doubled for each empty column. With all eight cells empty you can move nine cards, or eighteen if there is also an empty column that you are not moving into.
Is FreeCell Two Decks free to play here?
Yes. It is free, runs in your browser on a computer, tablet or phone, and needs no download or account.
